On the 10th September 2020 KEN BEAL passed away at the JR at the age of 85. Ken leaves a widow, Joan, a daughter, two grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren. For many years Ken was a stalwart of the Carswell Golf Club and especially its Seniors Section. He left the Club with health issues about 3 years ago. Ken’s started his working life as a carpenter rising to senior foreman with the prestigious building company Kingerlee working on many building projects in Oxford and surrounding counties. In his youth he played cricket for Oxfordshire specialising both as an opening bat and fast bowler. For many years he played for Cumnor Cricket Club. Ken was a friendly, amiable person notable not just for his golf but also for his technique as a golf buggy driver. He will be greatly missed by those who knew him.

BRIAN STEPNEY –Notice was given in the Press on the 3rd September 2020 that Brian “..passed away at the John Radcliffe Hospital on 21st August 2020 aged 85 years. Dearly loved husband of Dorothy & father of Peter & David. Much loved Grampy. Due to restrictions a private service will take place on Tuesday 15th September, 3pm at Oxford Crematorium. Family flowers only. Donations if desired for British Heart Foundation via brianstepney.muchloved.com or a retiring collection will be available for Cowley Road Methodist Church after the Funeral Service. All enquiries 01865 748855″ Brian was a much loved member of the Carswell Golf Club and of its Seniors Section. A founder member at Carswell, he had variously served in the offices of Club Captain, Handicap Secretary and Seniors Section Captain. Latterly he was very much the Club’s eminence grise who could be consulted on anything to do with the etiquette of golf, the interpretation of the rules, the nuances of dealing with Gerry and the correct behaviour in all manner of situations. He had careers in the law and then the motor industry. A brief spell as a charity auctioneer lead him into a business interest in the collection of antique silver spoons. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him.
